Did Caesar really not want to be crowned king or was his refusal a ploy to win the publics allegiance? Why or why not ?

Caesar had no need to be king or crowned. He had full public support and was only feared by those who plotted against him. No one will ever really know if their fears had basis because Caesar wasn't alive long enough to prove them wrong. I personally believe he had the best of intention..... he could be tyrannical...... but he was also just.
