The power of Caesar is at issue in this play, and the men who assassinate him are trying to take that power down; however, in killing him, they then engage in a power struggle. Marc Antony, for one, uses the assassination to his own purpose when he delivers his "Friends, Romans, and countrymen" speech because he convinces, in a devious way, the crowd that maybe the assassins were not good people after all and should not be in a position to govern.
