Issues surrounding female interpretation and expression of their own sexuality is at play here. Women and their sexuality were confined to very narrow male dominated constraints. The fact that Mrs. Baroda feels attracted to a man other than her husband would have been considered scandalous while a man attracted to a woman other than his wife would have been accepted as "normal."
