How would you have handled Dana's situation?

In the beginning of the book when Dana was sent back in time and finds herself looking down a rifle, how would you have handled Dana's situation?

If a rifle was pointing at my head I certainly would not try to explain I had just time traveled. I would probably have screamed that I was trying to help the boy in the river.
