What did Gloucester hope for ? How did he perform it ? Did he succed ?

Gloucester hoped to both see his son and be reconciled with him (Edgar). Gloucester doesn't know his wish has come true until Edgae reveals his identity in Act Five, Scene Three. After which, Gloucester, overwhelmed by the news that his heart gave out.
