3.what do you think is the significance of wehlings offhanded comment that he is "the invisible man"? How does this description relate to the rest of the story?

Wehling, the protagonist in our story, is supposed to be a main character in the story. He is mentioned in the introduction, but is then quickly forgotten as the attention shifts towards the mural. This fits with the "invisible man comment."
