George's father was also an intelligent man, but the handicapping program stunted his mind, and he never became the individual he could have become had he been free to pursue his own desires. Harrison's father couldn't make his own choices because he didn't have the ability to break free. He was smart and physically superior (he had to wear weights to stifle his strength), but he had no spirit, no zest. He didn't care about anything enough to go out on a limb for it. Harrison, does the exact opposite; he won't settle for what the government deems him worthy or for their stifling procedures. Harrison makes the choice to fight back because he believed death better than half a life.
