If we examined short stories, like Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron, individual differences are seen as a threat to fairness and equality. It is the supposition of this society that all injustices in society are derived from physical and mental differences in people hence individualism is seen as dangerous to society. The story is of course a satirical look at equality taken too far.
