why do you think Hawkeye and Heyward capture Magua and only tie him up instead of finishing

Throughout the novel, James Fenimore Cooper condemns those who are unjustly violence and praises those who exercise constraint and kill others only when absolutely necessary. If Hawkeye and Heyward kill Magua, they are only practicing the brutality that they so despise of the Huron.
