How does the conflict between Mordred and Arthur emphasize the theme of betrayal in the tale?
The theme of betrayal is illustrated through the conflict between Mordred and Arthur, but I believe it goes much deeper than that. Mordred's murder of Arthur was predestined..... it was foretold and it seems.... unchangeable. Arthur tried to take Mordred's life as a child... he tried to change destiny... to no avail. When we assume the two have let bygones be bygones... the slights, the planning. the manipulation seems to increase. Mordred has a plan... Arthur is vulnerable. Betrayal is everywhere.
