Le Morte d'Arthur
What idea of leadership and loyalty in the present does the ending of Morte d' Arthur suggest?
Ending of tale where Bedivere is speaking to the hermit
Ending of tale where Bedivere is speaking to the hermit
Well I recall Bedivere comes to the chapel where he finds the Archbishop of Canterbury on the ground parrying near finds Arthur's body. Bedivere decides to become a hermit and Arthur's body is taken away on the barge by lots of women (his aunts were there too). What does this have to do with loyalty in the present? I suppose the age of chivalry has been dead a long time. I don't think the average person knows what it means. Unconditional loyalty to a leader is pretty rare. Of course this is a very different time and loyalty to any leader is much more complicated than Bedivere had it.
