Dr. King insists that the black man has waited “more than 340 years” for justice, and he then lists a series of abuses that his people have had to and still must contend with. King sites an example of having to explain to his young daughter why she cannot go to the “public amusement park” because of her skin color. King explains that black people have been pushed “into the abyss of despair.” The dificulty in allowing blacks to vote is another travesty of justice that King points out.
