I believe this is best answered on page 152, where Loewen cites;
“For our first seventy years as a nation, then, slavery made our foreign policy more sympathetic with imperialism than with self-determination. Textbooks cannot show the influence of slavery on our foreign policy if they are unwilling to talk about ideas like racism that might make whites look bad. When textbook authors turn their attention to domestic policy, racism remains similarly invisible.”

Slavery was a large contributor to the idea of racism. The rather unique type of slavery that America had, where the children of slaves were also slaves and never had a chance to be free, gave rise to the idea of racism and that whites were better than blacks. There is a distinction between racism and slavery without the presence of the other. If one were to look at the way slavery worked in other countries, it would commonly be the people who belonged to the country that lost a war that would become slaves. Those people would be able to regain their freedom, as well. Racism is simply a prejudice against someone of a particular race.

the relationship between slavery and racism is very broad, but we all have to understand first the start and history of slavery because it has a huge contribution to racism, racism is a prejudice as we all know and note that thet are other prejudices. slavery actually started in the old testerment when eygypt enslaved isreal and so on. but we understand that the slavery that is the major problem for modern rascim especially in north america is the trans atlantic slavery. well there was stuufs like trans saharan that started before then. the trans atlantic slavery to me is the major cause of modern racism in the US and other parts of north america.
