What kinds of visitors do Pi and Richard Parker receive? Why are birds in particular so disappointing to Pi?

Pi saw a number of whales. He also saw dolphins. Pi saw an auspicious albatross flying over him. Pi ate a bird with a broken neck but,

For the size of the bird, there was a disappointing amount of flesh, just a little on the chest. It had a chewier texture than dorado.
