On page 133, Pi states "Had I considered my prospects in the light of reason, I surely would have given up and let go of the oar, hoping that I might drown before being eaten." What do we do you think this statement mens?

Pi is alluding to the fact that if he had really thought about what he was doing, he might have been worried about his own survival rather than saving Richard Parker. In hindsight, he realized that drowning would have been preferable to being eaten alive by the tiger.
