Pi is once again delving into his past in Pondicherry. This is the second Mr. Kumar that we meet (from Pi's past). He is a Sufi Muslim mystic named Satish Kumar. He shares the same surname as the earlier Mr. Kumar we met that was an atheist. One taught him biology and the other taught him Islam. Both subjects were sacred to Pi. In Ch. 20 Pi relates his experience with Satish Kumar as being profoundly spiritual.
