Marcus is playing a pirate ship game but needs someone, a stranger, to "wind me up". One of the xnet people will do it for him. Marcus likes the idea of a stranger being kind to him. He finds it contrary to the harsh world he is living in. He likes the idea that people on the Xnet are compassionate with each other. I think all the Xnet people are resisting the oppressive control of the state.
