In this chapter Marcus describes both physical and emotional torture. He comments that he felt “dirty and ashamed.” What do you think it is that finally breaks Marcus and makes him feel this way?

Marcus is detained in a place that is similar to a torture camp. He has no food, no water, and he isn't allowed to shower. Marcus is isolated, and the guards haddcuff his hands behind his back. They keep him this way for so long that he wets himself. Marcus feels dirty and ashamed because when they finally take him back to the interrogation room, he signs the papers they want, so that he can finally go free. Marcus has lost his privacy and his dignity. They'd broken his will.
