In Chapter Eight, Cynthia searches the cemetery for cigarette butts, something she calls giggles. While helping her grandfather clean up after Miss Fran's death, she found an ashtray full of cigarette butts. Cinder had teared up at the sight, but it also made him giggle. Since that, she brings home “giggles” for him regularly.
