Chapter 17

Josie learns how her mother and father met. She also discovered that he had a girlfriend. Most importantly, Josie discovers that his presence makes her feel safe.

"Remembered how I said that night time scares me a lot because I feel as if everyone could be dead? Well, just being able to hear Michael snoring made the night time sound so alive." (pg 164)

When Josie goes on a trip with Michael to Adelaide, they quickly make up for the 17 years they lost and started to develop a close and strong bond. Throughout this experience, Josie realizes that she likes having a dad to talk comfortably with and tease her mother with. As well as discovering that Michael’s presence makes her feel safe, Michael admits that he loves Christina, but that the pressure of deciding between being a father or aborting a fetus was tough to handle. He didn’t even think Christina would overcome the pressure of Nonno Francesco and have the baby.
