Lord Byron's Poems
How is the past and present set in contrast in the poem "When We Two Parted"?
Notice how he uses if, not shall or will, when he talks about future. He starts with the past and includes the present, but why and how he does that?

Byron's poem is autobiographical. His ability to meld the past, the present, and the future is all bound within his feelings of grief. His heart is broken.... he is forever changed. His life revolves around the negative aspects of his grief.... something he finds impossible to let go of.
