5. What new threat do jack and his supporters pose for the island community? Why is Ralph reluctant at the end of the chapter, to blow the conch?

Jack quickly figures out that it is in his interest that the boys believe in a beast. The more the boys fear the beast, the more he can offer them the illusion of "protection". Jack is able to rally the boys to his side through fear of the beast and systematic humiliation of Piggy. Ralph knows he is loosing control of his tribe. As the boys disperse in a frenzy to kill the beast, Ralph is reluctant to blow the conch. He knows that there is the distinct possibility that they will not come anymore.
