Through the use of the various characters in the story we see humans as both, fundamentally human and fundamentally ordered. Jack organizes his choir into hunters and the hunters soon feel the blood lust of the hunt and the kill. Ralph tries to keep the boys fundamentally organized, especially as Piggy helps him decide what to do. Ultimately, however, the boys would not have recovered from the savagery, had not the adults arrived at the island at just the moment when the hunters were pursuing Ralph and they had already killed Piggy.
Poor piggy.
