Both literally and symbolically why did Ralph and Piggy decide to attend Jack's feast?

Literally Piggy and Ralph are both really hungry. They know there will be meat there. Symbolically, eating the meat at Jack's feast weakens Ralph even more. Any shred of dignity or influence he has is taken away by the symbolism of eating the meat.
