The boys live a calm life, relaxing in the morning, often sleeping in the heat of the afternoon, and sleeping at night as the everning cools. The littl'uns are often frightened at night; Jack wants more and more to kill a pig and seems to separate himself from the others as he becomes more savage. Ultimately, this separation and his descent into savage behavior, relates to the theme that we are often savage when civilizing influences are not available to us.
