I think the older film of the novel is THE best film-from-a-novel I've ever seen.

Haven't seen the old one, but I've seen the 1990 one, and I actually don't mind it. Although the American accents were annoying, and it wasn't exactly the same as the book, I think the general spirit of the book was still captured. People interpret the book differently, and this was Harry Hooks interpretation.
