Given Golding's stated intentions for The Lord Of The Flies, why has he chosen to set it in a remote jungle setting?

Golding needed to isolate his boys from the rest of the world to conduct his social experiment. The boys had to be away from all adult influence. The island had to be self-sufficient to sustain them physically. Golding can have his boys evolve according to his perception of human nature.
