Lord of the Flies

Hi, may I please know what readers can learn from Lord of the flies? and what did the audiences at the time take from it?

I have to do an oral presentation and this is one of the questions i need to address but I really dont know how to eleborate and give details because its pretty self-explanatory. This is quite urgent. Thank you in advance.

Readers can explore themes of human nature, specifically the darker side of man. Golding essentially believed that when given the chance, human nature will side with its dark side (evil) rather than its good side. There are certainly characters that try to be kind and responsible (Ralph, Simon, Piggy, the twins) but they are drowned out by the other boys who have succumbed to their dark side. Golding challenges us to consider how children, boys in particular, would develop if there were no adults to guide them? The result is a social experiment that illustrates some dark truths about human nature.
