How dose Jack gain respect in this chapter? Do you think he deserves it?Why or why not?

 Ralph admonishes Jack and his hunters for letting the fire go out. Ralph is so angry at the idea that they could have been rescued that he looks for the worst word he can think of, "They let the bloody fire go out". Jack, however, is overjoyed by the kill and ignores Ralph. Piggy begins to cry at their lost opportunity, and he also blames Jack. The two argue, and finally Jack punches Piggy. The show of Piggy being hurt is enough of a diversion to let Jack, with no sincerity, apologize for letting the fire go out. Most of the boys find this apology to be most gracious and respect Jack for it even though they could have been rescued.
