In chapter 5, When Percival says the beast came from the sea, how do the boys react?

Percival is just a little crazy; he's a little boy you know? Simon responds with a comment about “mankind’s essential illness” and tries to explain that the beast is “only us,” and continues on to try and make a point but is interrupted by Jack's crude humor. None the less, no one is taken seriously.
