The next morning, the boys gather on the beach to discuss what the hunters saw. Ralph tells Piggy about the creature on the mountain, which he describes as a beast with teeth and big black eyes. Piggy is skeptical. Jack assures the group that his hunters can defeat the beast, but Ralph dismisses Jack's group as no more than boys with sticks....Check out source link below

Jill d, why were those important though?

Jill d, why were those important though?

They're important because the whole chain of command is falling apart. The more the boy's actions descend into chaos, the more barbaric they become.

Ralph is becoming unsure of himself; he's depressed, and he has no idea what to do. Jack senses his weakness and takes advantage. When the hunters bring home meat, they expect submission from those who are going to eat it...... everyone is hungry.......... so they're going to eat.

Piggy is picked on above everyone else because he's considered useless. He's brilliant, but his intelligence can't help him. Jack is also designating a pecking order, and it looks like Piggy is at the bottom.

Simon is our Christ figure. He's spiritual, and he understands things no one else does. He becomes the ultimate sacrifice........... but not until later.
