I've always felt that the only aspect of the story not covered sufficiently was the effect that the older boys had on the youngest of those who survived the crash. We see the growing conflicts between Jack and Ralph as they each fight to gain control, and we experience their descent into primitive behavior (some more than others), but we never really see the way in which the older boys' behavior affects those who are too young to understand.
