In the beginning of Lord of the Flies, how are the boys trying to be civilzed?

What are some ways (3 or more) that the young boys in Lord of the Flies are trying to be civilized?

The boys almost immediately see that the conch shell is a tool with which they can restore a sense of order, they vote upon leadership, list survivors, set up a group to explore, survey the area, and look for food sources.
