Lord of the Flies

In the first paragraph of Chapter 2, Golding writes, "The choir, noticably less of a group, had discarded their cloaks." What does this statement convey?

I am absolutely confused on what to even begin writing. Any help is useful! Thank you!!

The choir boys begin to cast of their civility with their cloaks. They no longer look the part of a civilized group of school boys, and their actions will prove similar.
