In the LORD OF THE FLIES, how do the boys fall into the island and how the turn into savage ?

The boys' plane is shot down. We can assume it was during WW2 when the boys were being evacuated.  The boys turn to savagery gradually throughout the novel. The absence of adult enforced boundaries and structure give the boys the freedom, to what Golding feels, to revert to the true primal nature of human nature.
