"Ralph tried indignantly to remember. There was something good about a fire. Something overwhelmingly good." What is going with Ralph's mental state in chapter 10??

Ralph is maturing very quickly. By chapter 10, he no longer thinks like a boy his age. Ralph has seen the fire used and abused by the boys but he also remembers how fire also means life: perhaps even rescue. Unfortunately most of the other boys use the fire as leverage against each other.
