Lord of the Flies
Was this a normal pig killing? What does this hunt and kill reveal about the boys’ nature?
ch 8
ch 8
The killing of the sow is chilling. I still don't like reading it. Golding lays heavy into the rape imagery of the sow. The boys enjoy torturing this poor "mother figure" of pigs. The language becomes disturbingly violent with sexual undertones. The boys, who are approaching puberty, are already twisted in an area of life they know nothing about. They seem to get off on the power and control of it all. They are socio-paths in the making.
