What do you think Sam and Eric symbolize as in "Lord Of The Flies??

I just need a brief explination as to what you think sam and eric mean,symbolize,or represent to you and if you want to give quotes from the book that would REALLY help too :)

Sam and Eric are two young twins who do everything together. They represent reliance and unity. They are so loyal to each other they become, more or less, one person and are referred to as "Samneric". They try to be loyal to Ralph but, in the end, are too afraid and tormented to withstand Jack's violence.

I think it is important to add that later on in the novel the brothers even fight each other. This represents the concept of "brotherhood" falling apart. The island is a microcosm of the greater world hence illuminating the fact that we wage war on our brothers all the time.
