Consider Piggy himself. The glasses become an extension of what Piggy represents. Piggy clings to the idea of order, civilization, scientific knowledge....His glasses also isolate Piggy in these contexts as well as his physical inferiority. Piggy is virtually blind without his glasses. This, in the eyes of most boys, just adds to his weakness inferiority.
