What is done witg the information about the snake-thing?

Really not much initially. Jack says that he and his hunters will kill it. Ralph tries to point out that it doesn't exist. At one point they go lookng for the beast at the top of a mountain. They see the dead parachute dude and think he is the beast. They decide to stay away from the mountaintop. This really depends on exactly when in the novel you mean.
