what is the beastie ?

THe beastie is the boys' imaginary monster that lurks in the jungle. Fpor many of the boys the beastie is manifested as the dead pilot on top of the mountain. For Simon, Golding's Christ figure, the beast is themselves, at once "heroic and sick".
