What went wrong with the ship? Why weren't the boys rescued? How do you think this will affect the relationship between Ralph and Jack?

THe ship did not see the signal fire. This had a lot to do with the signal fire not being lit. THe ship passed them by. The failure of Jack and the hunters to fulfill their fire duty brings Ralph to rage. It permanently splits Ralph and Jack apart. It sets off a vicious power grab. Unfortunately Ralph isn't so vicious.
