Lord of the Flies
Lord of the Flies
There are certainly more differences than similarities. Ralph has fewer people on his side as the book progresses. Eventually he is left with just Piggy. Ralph's side, when he had Simon and the twins, was a more enlightened group. They tries to be "civilized" with the few people they had. Jack's group became large. There was comfort in the chaos that Jack offered. While Ralph offered democracy and responsibility, Jack offered dictatorship and chaos. Jack controlled this chaos. As long as the boys feared him and did what he said, the group worked. Where Ralph wanted personal and public responsibility, most of the boys would rather be told what to do and when to do it; they perceived this as a sense of safety and "fun".
