who is the most sympathetic character in lord of the flies and how?

I have always found Simon to be the most sympathetic character. He is the epitome of innocence and goodness....... hasn't even a thought of malice, and yet he's the one brutally murdered. His death was a travest and proof of how barbarous the boys had become.
