"Sam n' Eric" were at the feast the night young Simon was murdered. Unlike many of the other boys, they have a conscience, a sense of right and wrong that remains intact. The twins are ashamed to admit that they witnessed Simon's murder, or worse, took part in it. They cannot fathom the consequences of such an act so they distance themselves from it.
