Golding uses many colors in chapter 1. He uses green to symbolize nature and growth. He uses yellow to symbolize warmth and the hot son. Pink symbolizes discovery like the pigs as well as the inside of the conch. Black and red symbolize Jack and the lurking evil on the island. There is also the orange glow of the fire, which symbolizes warmth, security, and destruction.
