Why does Golding end the recount of killing Simon by telling us what happens to the body of the parachutist?

The parachutist was the original perceived beast. Simon was the "beast" that the boys believed came down from the mountain. It is ironic that the beast from the air should fly off while Simon, really the opposite of the beast, lies dead on the beach.
