why is it importnant that the boys got to the island after an "attack"

It was good that they survived at all after the attack. Piggy notices that a plane engine was on fire. They were lucky to end up on an island that had food and a fresh water source. The Island also separates them from whatever war, a nuclear war is suggested, that is happening in the world.
