why is the first chapter called the sound of the shell

Piggy finds a shell or conch in sea water. Piggy mentions that it can be blown into and it makes a booming sound. After a few attempts, Ralph makes a deep sound that resonates over the island. The other kids come of of the jungle upon hearing this sound.
