Does the Author state on explicit thesis or a theme?

I would say that one main theme in the novel is the fact that being different can be a wonderful thing. In this novel, the author portrays a boy who is too busy doing the things that make him happy to notice that his peers make fun of hom at every turn. In my opinion, the author is stating that it's okay to be different..... and that differences should be embraced.
